Latest News on the Condition of Mahmoud Mirzaei, Musician

Mahmoud Mirzaei, a musician, composer, and orchestra conductor, is the son of martyr Ali Mirzaei who died during the war.

Weeks ago, during nationwide protests that erupted following the death of Mahsa Amini, he was arrested by security forces at his home after composing and performing a song about Zhina (Mahsa Amini). Mahmoud Mirzaei expressed his protest and support for Mahsa Amini’s blood in the form of a poem stating: “We will not be satisfied with her blood, we are all walking the same path tomorrow, we will take revenge for you together.”

Since the Islamic Republic government feared even the singing of protest songs and had arrested many artists for this reason, Mahmoud Mirzaei, who is both a musician and the son of a martyr, was also arrested. After his arrest, Mahmoud Mirzaei was held in Ward 209 of Evin Prison for approximately one week under interrogation, and was then transferred to Fashafuyeh Prison; however, after a short period of time, he was returned to Ward 209 of Evin Prison. Since his last transfer to Evin Prison, all contact with him has been completely cut off.

It should be noted that Mahmoud Mirzaei’s release on bail of 500 million tomans has not yet taken place, and judicial authorities have also failed to announce the reason for this artist’s detention.
