Detainees of Nationwide Protests

The protests of Shahrivar month in 1401 (September 2022) began on the 26th of Shahrivar, following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini (Jina) due to actions by the morality police in Tehran. These protests spread to at least 85 cities and 18 universities across 29 provinces of the country.

These protests, which have remained strong until now, have resulted in the detention of hundreds of people and the killing and wounding of dozens of protesters, including children.

In recent days, 6 citizens, including 3 students named Selim Pishdad, Sajad Jiriyayi, Javad Azad, Adel Mansouri, Sajad Sadeghi (former radio director and expert), and Sepideh Salaroond (anthropologist, writer and child rights activist) were detained in Naqadeh and Tehran by security forces. Two of these students, Javad Azad and Adel Mansouri, were transferred to Tehran Grand Prison.

Selim Pishdad, a resident of Qarna village in Naqadeh, was detained in his personal residence by security forces, and to date there is no information available about his place of detention and the charges against this citizen.

Similarly, 22-year-old Shakiba Hosheiar, a mechanical engineering student at Razi University in Kermanshah, was also detained in front of the university and transferred to an unknown location.

Continuing with recent detentions, a couple named Effaf Abbadi and Hamid Khalilavi, residents of Ahvaz, were detained during nationwide protests in the city and transferred to an unknown location. It should be noted that security forces, after detaining this couple, conducted a search of their home.

9 other citizens were detained in Mazandaran, Qazvin, Tehran and Chabahar by security forces. Among these citizens, one person was transferred to Evin Prison. The identities of these students are Mohammad Velayati – a chemical engineering student at Noshirvani University of Babol – in Mazandaran, Mirshaheen Fatemi – a master’s student of cultural studies at the University of Culture and Science – in Tehran, Hamed Khalili – a master’s student of political science at the International University – in Qazvin, and Mohammad Javad Khajavi – a cinema student at Pars Architecture and Art University. Among these students, Mohammad Khajavi was also transferred to Evin Prison.

Also, 5 women were detained in Chabahar. The identities of 3 of them, Fatima Baluch Kari, Mehrnoaz Omarzahi, 17 years old and suffering from seizure disorder, and Sara Baluchi, 20 years old, have been mentioned. The Chabahar intelligence office informed the families of these detainees not to publicize the detention so they would be released, but the detainees were transferred to Zahedan.

It is reported that the number of detainees is increasing.

Our question is: How long will these incidents continue?
