Statement from Iran’s Armed Forces
In light of widespread public protests across Iran, the people have repeatedly called on the Islamic Republic’s military for support. The armed forces have recently issued a statement in support of the people.
During the forty-day memorial ceremony for Mahsa Amini, videos showing the military’s support and shelter for the people went viral on social media, demonstrating that the Islamic Republic’s armed forces stood with the people; however, this support had not been formally announced.
The armed forces of Iran issued a collective statement in a video titled “Safnama.”
The text of this statement is as follows:
Greetings to the heroic nation of Iran and to the martyrs of the path of freedom. The courageous and struggling people of Iran, in these dark and sorrowful days, have filled the hearts of each of us with anger and pain, and without doubt, the cause of the current situation is the bloodthirsty regime and its corrupt leaders who are hostile to Iran and ruling over it. Any hope for reform and improvement of conditions within the current framework has become impossible, and without doubt, the continuation of this situation will yield nothing but poverty, misery, torture, murder, plunder, and further devastation of our beloved homeland.
Moreover, during this period, the regime has not only ignored the protests and legitimate demands of the people, recognizing them only in words, but has also, through contrived and repetitive scenarios, labeled all popular movements and uprisings as riots and attributed them to foreign sources, resorting to arrests, suppression, and savage and naked killing of women, men, and children.
Due to an unprecedented collapse in the level of suppressive forces, they have employed mercenaries from the Popular Mobilization Forces, Hezbollah, and other terrorists, and simultaneously, to divert public opinion, have resorted to heinous acts such as the Evin prison fire incident and the assassination at Shah Cheragh.
We, a collective of devoted servants of the nation and homeland working in Iran’s armed forces, from all organizations, military and intelligence ranks who witness the chaotic and bloody situation of the country and our dear compatriots, based on human honor and our military oath to preserve and protect the territorial integrity, lives, property, and honor of Iran and Iranians, have taken determined and firm steps onto the battlefield.
While announcing our complete and decisive support and solidarity with the struggling nation of Iran, and free from any partisan, political, ethnic, racial inclination, or attachment to foreign or unpatriotic elements, and not motivated by the pursuit of wealth and power, but rather in the pursuit of creating greater struggle and comprehensive unity between patriotic and duty-conscious armed forces with honor and ending the deplorable current situation and ensuring the integrity of the Islamic Republic and realizing the Iranian people’s popular revolution as quickly as possible with minimal material and moral cost, we have taken steps to form command centers at the level of all units under our command.
Under the name “Safnama” – the Command Headquarters of Iran’s Popular Armed Forces – and until the establishment of a unified and popular government with the direct free will and vote of the people, and our return to barracks and our positions, we will stand alongside the nation in the arena.
In this critical period, disassociation from filth and standing on the correct side of history is an important and vital matter. And the realization of the national victory that is at hand depends on your unity and trust in us, your sons and servants of the nation. Therefore, join our ranks and await Safnama’s first announcement in the coming hours.
