Iran Expelled from UN Women’s Commission

Yesterday, the Islamic Republic of Iran was expelled from the UN Women’s Commission with majority vote.

Given the systematic repression that the Islamic Republic government has carried out against women over the past three months, the United States proposed a resolution calling for the Islamic Republic’s removal from the UN Women’s Commission.

Yesterday, Wednesday, December 14, with the passage of this resolution in the Economic and Social Council meeting of the United Nations, the Islamic Republic was expelled from the Women’s Commission with 29 votes in favor, 8 votes against, and 16 abstentions.

According to Iran International news agency, the U.S. representative to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations read the prepared resolution and said: “The resolution prepared for the expulsion of the Islamic Republic from the UN Women’s Commission is a response to the voices of civil society in Iran and Iranian civil activists around the world, and will have global implications.”

The U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations also stated regarding the reason for this resolution: “The time has come for a country that kills its women and men to be expelled from this institution.”

Today, the voice of unity and solidarity of the Iranian people has reached the ears of all people around the world, and the veil has been lifted from the crimes of the Islamic Republic across the entire world. This unity and solidarity in Iran and other parts of the world will continue until Iran’s triumph over oppression and darkness.
