Hrana News Agency – On Wednesday, the 5th of Mordad, following an altercation in the Green Youth Ward of Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz, an inmate was injured and died due to the severity of his condition.
According to Hrana News Agency, the news organ of the Iranian Human Rights Activists organization, on Wednesday, the 5th of Mordad 1401, Unit Four on the third floor of the Green Youth Ward at Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz witnessed severe fighting between inmates.
In this altercation, an inmate from the city of Kavar in Fars Province was injured and died due to the severity of his condition.
According to an informed source, at three o’clock in the afternoon, this inmate was removed from the ward wrapped in a blanket following his injuries. So far, complete information about the identity of this inmate is not available.
The Green Youth Ward consists of 4 units and inmates aged 18 to 25 with various charges are held there. An informed source regarding the conditions of this ward told Hrana: “In this prison, the ward is also known by the name ‘Island of Cannibals,’ the ward space is very harsh, and an 18-year-old youth, to protect himself and to prove he is very tough, cuts his face or hands with a blade.”
According to internal prison regulations, the manufacture and possession of weapons in prison is considered a crime, and prison authorities are obligated to conduct inspections in accordance with regulations and ensure the absence of such dangerous items. However, failure to comply with the law results in such altercations and endangers the lives of inmates.
This occurs while failure to comply with the principle of separation of offenses and holding inmates with different charges together has caused altercations among prisoners and in many cases has resulted in severe injuries and death of inmates. In many prisons across the country, a number of political and ideological prisoners are held, contrary to the principle of separation of offenses, among inmates charged with violent crimes.
