Siamak Namazi Tells Joe Biden: “End This Nightmare”

Siamak Namazi, an imprisoned Iranian-American citizen, has called on U.S. President Joe Biden to make efforts for his release and that of other American citizens in an op-ed published by The New York Times on Wednesday, June 29.
Mr. Namazi, in his request titled “End This Nightmare,” acknowledged that any agreement on the freedom of these citizens, whether involving the release of Iranian prisoners in America or Iran’s assets in foreign banks, would carry political costs for President Biden’s administration.
Siamak Namazi, who holds the record for the longest imprisonment of an American citizen, wrote in the op-ed published Wednesday that the American government’s approach, “which said it was difficult to imagine reviving the JCPOA without freeing the hostages,” was correct, but the halt of those negotiations should not be an obstacle to efforts to secure their release.
With the start of a new round of indirect negotiations between Iran and America, the family of Emad Shargi, another imprisoned Iranian-American, also called on the United States government to first release American prisoners before reaching an agreement on the JCPOA.
Currently, Siamak Namazi, Emad Shargi, and Morad Tahbaz are three imprisoned Iranian-American citizens in Evin, and Baquer Namazi is also not allowed to leave the country despite his case being declared closed.
