Iran Responds to G7 Statement Condemning Human Rights Violations in the Country

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson strongly condemned sections of the final statement from the G7 summit. The statement condemned human rights violations, Iran’s missile program, and “destabilizing activities” in the region.
Nasser Kanaani, Spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran, responded on Tuesday, July 7 (June 28) to the final statement from the summit of G7 member countries in Germany, saying: “We strongly condemn sections of the final statement by the leaders of G7 member countries that are directed against the Islamic Republic of Iran”.
He was referring to sections of the statement in which the Islamic Republic is condemned for the continued violation of human rights, including arbitrary arrests and increased executions, the country’s missile program, and its destabilizing activities in the region.
The G7 leaders also called on Iran to stop all ballistic missile activities and nuclear weapons proliferation contrary to Resolution 2231, and to immediately provide credible technical information that the Agency needs to clarify and resolve outstanding issues in order to fulfill its legal obligations.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson considered the above-mentioned items to be “baseless, one-sided, and unjust” and said: “The statement of G7 leaders deliberately ignores the flagrant violation of the nuclear agreement and UN Security Council Resolution 2231 by the United States and the imposition of illegal maximum sanctions against the noble people of Iran”.
He also claimed that the statement contains “unfounded” accusations regarding the Islamic Republic’s lack of safeguard cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency. According to the FARS News Agency, Kanaani stated that the Islamic Republic emphasizes its “explicit commitment” that “Iran should never develop nuclear weapons,” but Iran’s missile program “is never negotiable and subject to compromise”.
Kanaani also criticized a section of the statement related to the Islamic Republic’s responsibility for the downing of the Ukrainian aircraft by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. In the final statement, the leaders of G7 countries also referred to the downing of the Ukrainian aircraft by the Islamic Republic and announced that they will support continued international efforts to “hold Iran accountable” for the downing of Flight 752.
