Fourth Day of Farhad Meysami’s Strike Demanding Cancellation of Ahmadrezai Jalali’s Death Sentence

Farhad Meysami, a civil activist imprisoned in Rajaei Shahr Prison in Karaj, who has been on strike demanding the cancellation of the death sentence of Ahmadrezai Jalali, a dual-national prisoner, has been experiencing low blood pressure since yesterday.

According to Hrana news agency, the news organ of the Iranian human rights activists network, Farhad Meysami, a civil activist imprisoned in Rajaei Shahr Prison in Karaj, has been on strike since Saturday, 17 Ordibehesht.

Farhad Meysami has been facing low blood pressure since yesterday. He previously stated his demand in this protest action by writing an open letter, calling for the cancellation of Ahmadrezai Jalali’s death sentence.

Part of this letter reads: “Mr. Jalali has been threatened with execution by security officials for over three years. These days, Ahmadrezai Jalali is one of the most vulnerable people on earth. Do not let Jalali be executed. No, let me correct myself: Do not let Jalali be executed 100 times.”

Recently, ISNA news agency, citing informed sources, reported that the death sentence of Ahmadrezai Jalali, a dual-national prisoner, would be carried out by the end of Ordibehesht this year. According to ISNA’s report, Mr. Jalali’s death sentence, after being upheld by the Supreme Court, has been put on the execution agenda.

Ahmadrezai Jalali, a university professor who traveled to Iran in Ordibehesht 1395 at the invitation of Tehran University, was arrested by security forces on charges of “waging war through spying for Israel.” The Tehran prosecutor accused Ahmadrezai Jalali of “transferring information related to completely secret regime projects in research, military, defense, and nuclear fields in exchange for receiving financial payments along with Swedish citizenship for himself and his family.”

Mr. Jalali was ultimately sentenced to death on charges of espionage, and this sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court in Azar 1396.

Farhad Meysami is spending the fourth year of his sentence without a single day of leave in Rajaei Shahr Prison in Karaj.

He was also summoned and charged on 28 Bahman 1400 in another case to Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Karaj. The charge against him, based on the publication of notes attributed to him in cyberspace, was titled “propaganda against the system.”

Farhad Meysami was arrested on 9 Mordad 1397 by security forces and was sentenced by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Solwati, to 5 years imprisonment for “assembly and conspiracy with the intent to commit a crime against national security,” to 1 year imprisonment for “propaganda activities against the system,” and also to 2 years of deprivation from membership in political and social parties and groups, activity in cyberspace, media, publications, and leaving the country.

With the application of Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code in his case, the severest punishment, namely 5 years of disciplinary imprisonment for the charge of “assembly and conspiracy with the intent to commit a crime against national security,” will be applicable to him.

Mr. Meysami was suddenly transferred from Evin Prison to Rajaei Shahr Prison in Karaj on 18 Aban 1398.
