Agreement in Coma, Disagreements Over JCPOA Revival Remain

The spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State said in his Thursday press conference: “Given the existing disagreements, reaching an agreement to revive the JCPOA is uncertain.”

Meanwhile, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy in Tehran claimed that Americans, by offering proposals including removing the IRGC from the list of terrorist groups, have asked the Islamic Republic not to take revenge for the killing of Qassem Soleimani, but the system has strongly rejected these proposals.

Voice of America also reported that the United States said: “If Iran wants the lifting of non-JCPOA sanctions, it must address America’s concerns beyond the JCPOA.”

According to the report, an unnamed State Department official warned that even in case of returning to the JCPOA, “the United States will retain its powerful tools to counter the destabilizing activities of the Islamic Republic and this regime’s support for terrorism and the IRGC’s destructive activities, and will use them when necessary.”

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic also said in a conversation with his Syrian counterpart: “Message exchanges between us and the Americans through the European Union are underway, and in this process we have repeatedly emphasized that the Islamic Republic neither pays attention to greedy demands nor will retreat from its red lines.”

It should be noted that the Islamic Republic has linked the return to the JCPOA to the lifting of sanctions on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, while at the same time is unwilling to provide any guarantees regarding stopping the IRGC’s terrorist and sabotage activities in the region.

Recently, Faezeh Hashemi Rafsanjani, daughter of Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, one of the founders of the Islamic Republic, in remarks during a Clubhouse room session, supported the continuation of sanctions on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and said that the IRGC’s activities are expanding day by day, which makes it more difficult for this force to return to barracks.

Stating that “the IRGC fires missiles and announces that it is our work,” she considered the IRGC’s performance harmful to the country and said: “What the Iranian society gets from the IRGC is negative and must be stopped somewhere.”

According to Faezeh Hashemi Rafsanjani, the only remaining way to return the IRGC to barracks is to continue sanctioning the IRGC.
