Iran’s Textbooks to Change Next Year by Order of Khamenei

Youssef Nouri, the Minister of Education, announced that Iranian students’ textbooks will be revised starting next academic year based on an order from Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Mr. Nouri told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that material which he described as “non-practical and provides no benefit to students” will be removed from student textbooks. He did not provide further details about this “non-practical” content that has been taught to students for years.
In recent years, the removal and modification of textbook content by Iran’s Organization for Research and Educational Planning, which plays a significant role in drafting and revising textbooks, has become controversial.
In one instance, the removal of integrals from high school textbooks drew controversy.
In another example, a long list of textbook deletions was published on social media, showing the replacement of post-revolution government literature instead of classical Persian literature.
The Organization for Research and Educational Planning is also planning to include anti-American content in textbooks but has stated that these changes will be made in accordance with directives from the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic.
