After Mohammad Nourizad’s Return to Prison, Ali Nourizad Released ‘Conditionally’

Following the return of Mohammad Nourizad, one of the signatories of a letter calling for Ayatollah Khamenei’s resignation, to Evin Prison, a human rights website reported the release of Ali Nourizad, the son of this political prisoner.
Hrana, the news organ of the Iranian Human Rights Activists Network, reported that Ali Nourizad, one of those detained during the nationwide protests of December 2019, was released from Evin Prison on Tuesday, January 25, 2020.
According to Hrana, Mr. Nourizad’s release was conditional and occurred after serving 17 months of his sentence.
Before returning to Evin Prison, Mohammad Nourizad said in an exclusive interview with Voice of America, noting that he has been unable to embrace his son Ali Nourizad for two years: “They arranged furloughs in such a way that if he was out, I was inside prison, and if I was out, he was inside prison, and if I go to prison, they will probably release Ali.”
Ali Nourizad was sentenced on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, headed by Iman Afshari, on charges including “gathering and conspiracy with intent to commit crimes against national security through participation in December 2019 gatherings,” “propaganda activities against the system,” and “insulting the leadership,” to four years and two months in prison and two years of deprivation of membership in political parties and groups. According to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code regarding the aggregation of sentences, only three years and six months of this sentence was enforceable as the most severe punishment.
