Execution of Two Prisoners Carried Out in Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz and Khorram Abad

Hrana News Agency – The sentence of a prisoner who had previously been convicted of murder and sentenced to death was carried out today, Tuesday, December 28, in Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz. He had been transferred yesterday to one of the solitary confinement cells of this prison for execution. Additionally, on Sunday, December 26, a prisoner convicted of murder was executed in Khorram Abad Prison.

According to Hrana news agency, the news organ of the Iranian Human Rights Activists Network, a prisoner was executed in Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz on Tuesday, December 28, 1400.

The identity of this prisoner, who had previously been convicted of murder, has been confirmed by Hrana as “Sajad (last name unknown) from Ward Sa’adat of Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz.” He had been transferred yesterday to one of the solitary confinement cells located in the basement of this prison for execution.

This citizen had been arrested approximately three years and six months ago on suspicion of murder during a street brawl. An informed source told Hrana in this regard: “During a group brawl in which security forces were also present at the scene, one person is killed. Sajad had a Kalashnikov in his hand, and despite the fact that the victim was killed with a pistol, the murder was attributed to him. Sajad denied the murder until the moment of his execution.”

Additionally, the Iran Human Rights Organization reported the execution of a prisoner in Khorram Abad Prison on Sunday, December 26.

This prisoner, identified as Muslim Agha Mirzaei, 30 years old, had been convicted and sentenced to death for the charge of “intentional murder.”

In this report, citing an informed source: “Muslim was a building painter worker and had been serving time in prison for the past two years under this charge. The murder that Muslim committed occurred during a dispute in defense of his friend’s sister.”

At the time of preparing this report, the execution of these prisoners has not been announced by domestic Iranian media or official sources.

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center, Publication and Works Division of the Iranian Human Rights Activists Network during the period (January 1, 2021 to December 20, 2021), at least 299 citizens were executed and 85 others were sentenced to death. Among those executed, four child offenders were executed.

According to the same report, more than 88 percent of executions carried out in Iran are not publicized by the government or the judiciary, which human rights organizations technically refer to as “secret” executions.
