Seventh Day of Hourly-Paid Teachers’ Gathering in Protest of Their Employment Status

The protest of dozens of hourly-paid teachers in Tehran continued on Monday, the 9th of Esfand, for the seventh consecutive day.
The gathering took place in front of the country’s Civil Service Organization, with hourly-paid teachers demanding an end to the “ambiguity” surrounding their situation and the issuance of their employment contracts.
These teachers are protesting the “non-fulfillment” of officials’ promises regarding their “unclear” employment status as well as the low level of their wages.
Some of these hourly-paid teachers told ILNA news agency: “Our income is low. Some teachers didn’t even have the money for travel to Tehran and colleagues helped collect funds for them.”
These teachers say they are not demanding anything beyond their rights and are asking officials to fulfill their promises.
According to ILNA news agency, these teachers are demanding the implementation of a plan known as “Determining the Employment of Hourly-Paid Teachers and Literacy Movement Instructors,” which was approved by parliament in 2009.
On Sunday, the 8th of Esfand, these hourly-paid teachers held a gathering in front of the Islamic Consultative Assembly building, asking parliamentary representatives to address their situation.
Last week, these hourly-paid teachers also held a multi-day sit-in and gathering in front of the Ministry of Education building, demanding officials’ attention to their living conditions and the low level of their wages.
