Coronavirus; Emergency Centers in Tehran on Alert to Combat Omicron Variant Spread

Iran’s Ministry of Health reported 44 more deaths from coronavirus and identified 2,103 new patients. Meanwhile, emergency departments and outpatient treatment centers in Tehran have been placed on alert for patients infected with the Omicron variant of coronavirus.
According to the official coronavirus statistics as of noon on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, the total number of COVID-19 patients in Iran reached 6,177,885 and the death toll reached 131,211.
Among the 2,103 patients in the past 24 hours, 344 were hospitalized. Currently, 2,821 COVID-19 patients are receiving treatment in hospital intensive care units.
In the past 24 hours, 22 provinces had zero deaths, with the highest mortality among coronavirus patients in Tehran with 14 deaths, East Azerbaijan with 6 deaths, and Yazd with 4 deaths.
According to official sources in Iran, currently no city is in a red or orange status, but 53 cities are in yellow status and 395 cities are in blue status.
Daily assessments of COVID-19 cases in different parts of Iran and official statistics announced by the Ministry of Health are being provided to the media, while since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak in Iran, official statistics in this regard have always been questioned by independent sources and even some government sources.
Simultaneously, Nader Tavakolli, Deputy Commander of the Coronavirus Response Headquarters of Tehran Province, announced the alert status of medical centers and the expansion of hospital outpatient services in response to the increase in Omicron variant coronavirus infections.
Kamal Heidari, Deputy Minister of Health at the Ministry of Health, also reported the identification of eight patients infected with Omicron in the country over the past two days, seven of whom were in Tehran and one in Mashhad.
