Narges Mohammadi and Keyvan Samimi Transferred from Evin to Qarchak and Karaj

Narges Mohammadi was transferred from Evin Prison to Qarchak Varamin after two months in solitary confinement. Keyvan Samimi was also transferred from Evin to Karaj Prison.

Tagi Rahmani, husband of Narges Mohammadi, announced on Twitter that this human rights activist was transferred to Qarchak Varamin Prison on Wednesday, December 29, after two months in solitary at Evin. According to Mr. Rahmani, Narges has had no contact with her family since this transfer.

Narges Mohammadi, vice president of the Defenders of Human Rights Center, was arrested again on November 25 at a memorial ceremony for Ibrahim Ketabdar, one of those killed in the November 2019 protests.

Keyvan Samimi, a 73-year-old imprisoned journalist, was also transferred from Evin to Rajaei Shahr Prison on the same day. After the death of Baktash Abtin, he wrote a letter titled “Manslaughter” and was subsequently threatened with exile.

These transfers are taking place as the Judiciary emphasized last week through a circular the necessity of separating political prisoners from ordinary inmates. Qarchak Prison and Rajaei Shahr Prison are primarily facilities for holding ordinary prisoners.
