Iran’s Judiciary Spokesperson: Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s Prison Sentence Has Not Yet Been Sent to Enforcement

Gholamhossein Esmaili, spokesperson for Iran’s judiciary, says that Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s one-year prison sentence is final but her case has not yet been referred to the enforcement of sentences department.

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a dual Iranian-British citizen, was detained at the airport in April 2016 while leaving Iran and was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of espionage.

Following the completion of her five-year sentence, Zaghari-Ratcliffe was again sentenced to one year in prison and one year of travel ban on charges of “propaganda against the state.”

Richard Ratcliffe, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s husband, began a hunger strike on Sunday of this week outside the British Foreign Office in London.

Mr. Ratcliffe told Radio Farda that he undertook this action due to concerns about his wife’s re-imprisonment and dissatisfaction with the British government’s approach to the issue.

The British Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary have not yet responded to the hunger strike of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s husband.
