Israeli President: Iran’s Dangerous Attempt to Obtain ‘Nuclear Weapons’ Must Be Stopped

Isaac Herzog, president of Israel, met and held talks with Boris Johnson, the British prime minister, on Tuesday in London.

Herzog wrote on his Twitter account following his meeting with the British prime minister that Israel appreciates Britain’s “firm” stance against Hamas and also “Iran’s dangerous attempt to [obtain] nuclear weapons, which must be stopped.”

Israeli newspaper Haaretz also reported on this meeting, citing the British prime minister as saying on Tuesday to Israel’s president that “the world does not have much time.”

This meeting took place several days before the continuation of talks between world powers and Iran in Vienna. Iran and world powers are scheduled to hold the seventh round of talks on November 29 to revive the JCPOA (the first round of talks under the Ibrahim Raisi administration).

According to Haaretz, Israel’s president told the British prime minister that Jerusalem hopes that its allies in negotiations with Iran will be “as firm as possible” and that “only if all options are on the table can matters proceed in the right direction.”

Haaretz says that Johnson said that Israel’s position regarding Iran has been well stated and “we are witnessing a situation where the world does not have much time.”

Iran says it is not seeking nuclear weapons. However, Israel says Iran’s nuclear program poses a threat to its existence.
