Two 14-Year-Old Girls Summoned in Javanroud Over Charges of ‘Supporting a Kurdish Opposition Party’

Hengaw, a human rights website covering human rights news in Kurdistan, reported that two 14-year-old girls from Javanroud city were summoned and interrogated for five hours by the city’s intelligence office on charges of “supporting one of the government opposition Kurdish parties.”
Sonya Karimi and Pariya Fathi, along with their 16-year-old friend Tara Ahmadi, were arrested by the Sepah Intelligence Organization on the second day of Shahrivar and released after one day. Previously, Rostam Yousefian, the governor of Javanroud, had confirmed the news by saying that these teenage girls intended to leave Iran and were found outside the city following their families’ request.
However, a source close to the families of these girls told Hengaw that the intelligence office threatened the families not to speak with the media. Additionally, Tara Ahmadi, one day after her release, hanged herself at home and remains hospitalized at Rasoul-e-Akram Hospital in Javanroud.
The governor of Javanroud confirmed the news of this teenager’s suicide but did not mention the reason for it. Hengaw reported that the Revolutionary Guards have asked Tara Ahmadi’s family to say that the Guards had no role in the matter and that Javanroud police found these girls.
