Official COVID-19 Statistics; Death Toll in Iran Surpasses 118,000

On Wednesday, with the announcement of 286 more deaths from COVID-19, the death toll from this disease in Iran exceeded the 118,000 mark.

According to a statement by the Public Relations Office of Iran’s Ministry of Health, over the past 24 hours, 286 coronavirus patients lost their lives, and with this count, the total number of COVID-19 deaths reached 118,191.

During the same 24-hour period, 17,433 new COVID-19 patients were identified in the country, of which 2,164 were hospitalized.

Based on Wednesday’s reports, 6,632 COVID-19 patients are under care in the intensive care units of hospitals.

On Tuesday, it was announced that more than 17,564 coronavirus patients had been identified in Iran, and 379 people died during the same period.

Although the number of deaths decreased compared to the previous day, the number of COVID-19 cases in Iran shows an increasing trend.

In this regard, the Tasnim News Agency warned on Wednesday about the possibility of the start of the sixth peak of coronavirus and reported that the number of daily cases compared to last week has grown by 36.7 percent to reach 17,564 cases and is again approaching the 20,000 cases per day threshold.

The official statistics announced by the Ministry of Health are questioned by some Iranian health officials, and in this connection, it has been said that the number of infected and deceased is at least twice these official figures.

Currently, 57 cities in the country are in red status, 238 cities are in orange status, 136 cities are in yellow status, and 17 cities are in blue status.
