Tehran in Critical Condition: Delta Virus Circulating and ICUs at Capacity

The medical deputy of the coronavirus task force in Tehran province stated that the dominant coronavirus strain in the province is the delta variant, also known as the Indian strain of coronavirus. According to Nader Tokaelli, ICUs are at full capacity and the number of outpatient cases has also increased.
The Iran Students News Agency (ISNA) reported in an interview with the medical deputy of the coronavirus task force in Tehran province that the dominant coronavirus strain in the province is the delta variant.
Dr. Nader Tokaelli stated that the rate of coronavirus-related hospitalizations has risen, with approximately 1,500 new hospital admissions occurring daily, and currently 6,700 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized throughout Tehran province.
According to the medical deputy of Tehran’s coronavirus task force, the number of outpatient cases has also risen, with approximately 8,600 patients receiving outpatient treatment on Sunday, July 11 alone.
Dr. Tokaelli, while noting that “naturally ICUs are at full capacity under these conditions,” assured that this crisis is being managed by opening new ICUs and increasing hospital bed capacity.
According to this official, Tehran is not yet in a red situation and businesses, although some are operating part-time, continue to operate. Dr. Tokaelli stated that until vaccination is completed, there is no action other than adhering to protocols that can be taken.
It was previously announced that a telephone system was launched to report vacant hospital beds, and people by calling a phone number and based on their place of residence can be informed of the nearest hospital with vacant beds. According to the medical deputy of Tehran province’s coronavirus task force, this system remains active.
