Tehran Fire Department: 1,600 Elevator Incidents Occurred in Capital During Six Days of Power Outage

Jalal Maleki said that six days of power outage were “historic days for the fire department organization” and added that due to this problem, a large number of citizens were trapped in elevators.
The spokesperson for the Tehran Fire Department Organization reported more than 1,600 elevator incidents over the past six days due to electrical fluctuations and power cuts in the capital.
Jalal Maleki said these six days were “historic days for the fire department organization” and added that due to the power outage, a large number of citizens were trapped in elevators.
According to him, in one fire station near Azadi Square, they had only 30 elevator-related operations in a single day, while a station in east Tehran had 25 such incidents.
Power cuts and water shortages in recent weeks have caused numerous problems in the lives of Iranian citizens.
With the onset of summer, power cuts gradually expanded to the point that in recent days they turned into widespread blackouts across Iran, triggering protests in some cities.
Disruption of government offices and small workshops, hundreds of people being trapped in elevators, traffic congestion, damage to citizens’ household appliances, the country’s chess champions losing in online international competitions, and the potential destruction of coronavirus vaccines at health centers were among these problems.
Islamic Republic officials have cited intensifying drought, a shortage of ten thousand megawatts of electricity, and cryptocurrency mining as reasons for the recent power shortage.
