Fifth Shipment of Coronavirus Vaccine Arrives in Iran

The spokesperson for Iran’s Red Crescent Society announced on Thursday the arrival of the fifth shipment of coronavirus vaccine to the country.

According to Mohammad Hassan Ghousian Moghaddam, in this phase “one million doses of coronavirus vaccine entered through Imam Airport”.

Stating that this shipment was brought in through the “efforts” of the organization and handed over to the Ministry of Health, he did not provide details about the name of the vaccine and the exporting country.

On Thursday, June 17, the Iran Red Crescent Society had announced the arrival of two million doses of coronavirus vaccine to the country, but hours later clarified that only half of this shipment had reached the country.

It appears that the fifth shipment is the other half of this two-million-dose package that has now arrived in Iran.

The latest statistics from Iran’s Ministry of Health on the coronavirus vaccination process show that fewer than four and a half million people in the country have so far received at least one dose of vaccine.

The slow pace of the vaccination process in the country has been accompanied by warnings about the fifth wave of coronavirus, a virus that according to official statistics from the Ministry of Health has claimed the lives of 85,095 people, though unofficial figures are two to three times higher.

Full vaccination of Iran’s population requires the administration of at least 150 million vaccine doses.
