Iranian judicial official: No difference in compensation for Ukrainian flight between Iranian and non-Iranian nationals

Shakrollah Bahrami, head of the Judiciary Organization of the Armed Forces, says there is no difference in paying compensation regarding the downing of the Ukrainian aircraft between Iranian and non-Iranian nationals.
He also claimed that the families of more than 130 victims of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps missile strike on the Ukrainian aircraft “are covered by the Martyrs Foundation.”
Shakrollah Bahrami, head of the Judiciary Organization of the Armed Forces, stated on Tuesday, July 6, that “a 200-page case file with 10 defendants” has been formed in this regard, and described the investigation of this case as “without any exaggeration and magnification” “unquestionably unprecedented.”
According to IRNA, Bahrami said “$150,000 per deceased has been allocated for compensation and damages, and the government is paying the compensation for the deceased and damages to their property, and there is no difference between Iranian and non-Iranian nationals.”
Previously, the families of the victims emphasized transparent and fair prosecution of those responsible for firing missiles at the aircraft and protested against the lack of transparency in Iran’s officials’ performance.
The Ukrainian Foreign Minister also said last year that his country is making all efforts to maximize compensation payments for the Ukrainian flight. He said negotiations with Iran would not be easy.
Ukrainian flight 752 crashed on January 8, 2020, after being struck by two missiles fired by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, killing 176 passengers, including dozens of Iranians living in Canada.
On June 24, Canadian news network CBC reported that the results of an eight-month investigation by the Canadian government into the downing of the Ukrainian aircraft show that the country has not reached evidence indicating that this action was “pre-planned.” However, the published report of the investigation results emphasizes that this in no way “removes Iran’s responsibility for the deaths of 176 innocent people.”
Hamed Esmailioun, spokesman for the Association of Families of Flight 752 Victims, who lost his daughter and wife in the plane crash, previously said: “We Iranian-Canadians say that these organizations and governments do not know the Islamic Republic government as we do. No one knows that government better than us, who have borne the yoke of this oppressor for 42 years. We are the ones who know they are capable of any crime.”
In mid-June of this year, the International Coordination and Response Group for Victims of the Ukrainian Flight, comprising representatives of Canada, Sweden, Ukraine, and Britain whose citizens were killed in the downing of flight 752 by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps missiles, issued a joint statement protesting the “violation of international law” by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also issued a statement last April, accusing the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran of “manipulation” of facts and causing “anger and disappointment” on the Ukrainian side.
