Missile Attack on Kabul Airport in Final Hours Before US Withdrawal

Kabul Airport has come under attack once again. Reports indicate that missile strikes were launched from an area north of Kabul. The U.S. Department of Defense reported that at least five missiles were fired at Kabul Airport.

On Monday, August 30 (Shahrivar 8), Kabul Airport came under attack once more. These attacks are occurring as the United States prepares to withdraw all its forces from Afghanistan by the end of this month.

The German news agency reported the missile strike on the city’s airport. The attacks were launched from the Khair Khana area, located in northwestern Kabul.

The news outlet “Tolo News” confirmed the attack in a Twitter post. Meanwhile, CNN, citing a U.S. government official, reported that at least five missiles were launched.

No accurate reports on casualties and damage from the attacks have yet been released to the media.

The missile attacks on Kabul Airport are occurring despite the fact that the airport is equipped with an air defense system. The German news agency noted in its report that the effectiveness of this system was tested a few weeks ago.

Warning About Attack on Kabul Airport

Videos circulated on social media showing a vehicle that caught fire. It is suspected that the missiles may have been launched from this vehicle toward the airport.

It should be recalled that U.S. President Joe Biden warned on Sunday, August 29, of the possibility of new attacks on Kabul Airport.

During an attack by forces affiliated with the “Islamic State” (ISIS) on Kabul Airport on Thursday, August 26, hundreds of people were killed and wounded.

CNN reported the death toll from that attack at around 200 people. At least 13 American soldiers were among the victims.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the August 26 attack.

It remains unclear which group carried out the missile attacks on Monday, August 30.
