Over Four Thousand Cases of Child Abuse Registered in Yazd During Year 1399

The director general of welfare in Yazd Province announced the registration of 4,098 cases of child abuse during the past year in the province. According to the definition of the World Health Organization, any form of physical or emotional maltreatment, sexual abuse, neglect or behavior accompanied by indifference or exploitation that results in actual or potential harm to a child’s health, survival, development or dignity in the context of relationships or responsibility, trust or power, is considered child abuse.
According to the Hrana news agency, citing IRNA, Ali Mohammad Atabbaksh, director general of welfare in Yazd Province, stated: 4,098 cases of child abuse were registered during the year 1399 in the province.
He expressed in this regard: The most frequent contacts of the province’s residents with the social emergency service concern child abuse.
Ali Mohammad Atabbaksh added: In the past year, seven thousand contacts were made with the social emergency service, of which 4,098 cases were related to child abuse.
He emphasized: Child abuse is mostly perpetrated by parents who are addicted.
