Republicans warn Biden: Lifting Iran sanctions is a mistake

A number of Republican representatives have warned the new American administration about the consequences of lifting sanctions on Iran by sending a letter. The letter states that removing sanctions weakens America’s position in nuclear negotiations with Iran.
American media have reported on a new effort by a number of Republican members of Congress to prevent the Biden administration from lifting sanctions on Iran.
The newspaper “The Hill” has referenced a letter that John Katko, a Republican representative from New York, sent to the Biden administration. It is said that a number of Republican representatives have also signed this letter. The letter addresses the consequences of lifting sanctions on Iran by the American government.
The announcement of America’s readiness to participate in a meeting of the P5+1 countries, which was proposed by Josep Borrell, the European Union’s foreign policy coordinator, has increased the efforts of opponents of the sanctions-lifting policy in that country.
In his letter, John Katko has noted that fulfilling Iran’s request to lift sanctions could damage America’s position in bilateral negotiations with that country.
John Katko has called for the continuation of the policy of maximum pressure against Iran by the new American administration. On the other hand, several other Republican representatives have made similar requests to the Biden administration.
For example, Liz Cheney, a Republican representative in Congress, has defended Donald Trump’s maximum pressure policy in her digital speech at the Reagan Institute.
Liz Cheney has described the 2015 nuclear agreement between the Obama administration and Iran as the “worst” agreement that America has signed throughout its history.
She has considered America’s withdrawal from the nuclear agreement a correct solution and has stated: “Any effort by the Biden administration to return to this agreement will be a mistake.”
Liz Cheney has said that such action by the Biden administration could send the wrong message to the Iranian government that their policy of nuclear pressure has been effective.
