Coronavirus Statistics in Iran: Death Toll Reaches Close to 85,000

Iran’s Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday, June 29, the death of 142 more people from coronavirus and the identification of over 12,000 new patients in the past 24 hours.

According to these statistics, 12,717 more people were infected with COVID-19 in the country over the past 24 hours.

Accordingly, the total number of coronavirus deaths in the country reached 84,127 people, and the total number of confirmed cases reached approximately 3,192,809 people.

The release of these figures comes as Iran’s Medical System Organization has estimated the actual death toll from coronavirus in Iran to be three to four times higher than the Ministry of Health’s figures.

On Tuesday, the Mehr News Agency quoted health experts as saying that daily coronavirus statistics have shown an upward trend in recent days, and the new wave due to the spread of the Delta variant is “far more contagious and dangerous” than previous peaks of the coronavirus outbreak in Iran.

News agencies also report that red coronavirus zones are spreading from south to central and northern regions of the country, with 63 cities currently designated as red coronavirus zones.

Despite these warnings, according to the IRIB news agency, Ayatollah Rouhollah Harizavi, Deputy Head of the Islamic Propaganda Organization, said on Tuesday, June 29, in a meeting with journalists: “No religious programs will be suspended due to coronavirus restrictions.”
