Child Laborer Commits Suicide in Mahshahr

On Monday, the 13th of Bahman, a child laborer in Mahshahr city committed suicide by hanging and lost his life. Poverty and financial hardship have been cited as the motivation behind the suicide of the fourteen-year-old boy. According to the Legal Medicine Organization, Iranian adolescents account for more than 7 percent of annual suicides.

According to Hrana News Agency, citing Asr-e Jonub, on Monday, the 13th of Bahman 99, a 14-year-old child laborer named Mohammad in Mahshahr committed suicide by hanging and died.

One of Mohammad’s friends said: “Poverty and financial hardship are the main reason for his decision to end his life.”

Based on this report, the teenage boy worked as a street vendor and recently had turned to selling filtered water, but with the outbreak of coronavirus disease, no one was willing to buy water from this child street vendor anymore.

Mohammad lived with his parents in one of the poor neighborhoods of Mahshahr city in Khuzestan province.

According to the Legal Medicine Organization, Iranian adolescents account for more than 7 percent of annual suicides.
