Davari Quotes Ahmadinejad: Islamic Republic Will Collapse After Khamenei’s Death

Abdolreza Davari, former advisor to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, says that Ahmadinejad believes the Islamic Republic will collapse following the death of Ali Khamenei, Iran’s government leader.
Davari said in an interview published Monday, April 13, on the Asr-e Iran website that based on this belief, “one of the news items that is always followed in Mr. Ahmadinejad’s circles is the health condition” of the Islamic Republic’s leader.
He also said that Ahmadinejad welcomes an American attack on Iran, saying: “If America attacks and destroys infrastructure, meaning water and electricity are cut off, this will be the starting point of the Islamic Republic’s collapse”.
Davari identified a third factor in the Islamic Republic’s collapse as “social unrest” and said that Ahmadinejad hopes that in the event of the Islamic Republic’s collapse, with the support of some foreign countries, he will become the “standard bearer of political change in Iran”.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is currently a member of the Expediency Discernment Council. He, whose government’s performance from 2005 to 2013 has been criticized for widespread corruption and plundering of financial resources, severe suppression of opponents, and fraud and manipulation in the 2009 elections, has faced widespread protests. In recent years, he has become a critic of Iranian government policies.
