Narges Mohammadi: I Have Been Condemned for Mutiny for Refusing to Light a Cigarette for the Prison Director

Narges Mohammadi, a human rights activist, mentioned on the Clubhouse social network a new sentence of “80 lashes as punishment, 30 months imprisonment as punishment” against her, saying: “This verdict is shameful and I will certainly defy it.”
Narges Mohammadi, who was speaking in a room titled “Female Political Prisoners: From Humiliation and Sexual Assault to Physical Punishment,” defined “defying prison director’s orders” as resistance to his demands and said: He asked me to light a cigarette for him, I crumpled the cigarette, and now I have been condemned for defying orders.
According to Narges Mohammadi, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps operates special safe houses in the east and west of Tehran for holding prisoners with no oversight whatsoever.
Narges Mohammadi has been sentenced to 80 lashes, 30 months imprisonment, and two monetary fines on charges of “propagandistic activity against the Islamic Republic of Iran system through publishing statements against execution,” “sit-in at the prison office,” “defying prison leadership and authorities,” “breaking windows,” and “slander regarding accusations of torture and assault.”
This human rights activist further stated: “Do not think interrogators only insult non-religious women. An interrogator told a religious woman in prison, ‘Aren’t you a prostitute?’ and a clergyman put money on the table and said: Take this money and be my prostitute for one night.”
Narges Mohammadi also described the behavior of security forces toward her: They “grabbed my hands and feet and, while I had no headscarf on, threw me like a sheep into the vehicle. One of the officers sat on my feet in the car. All the while I was screaming and protesting.”
In this Clubhouse room, accounts were heard from women who had experienced sexual harassment and physical punishment in political prisons, as well as from their families. These women, from the 1980s to today, recounted experiences ranging from sometimes similar to sometimes different instances of body touching, seduction, assault, and rape to those present.
