Absence of Warming Centers in Kerman; Homeless Woman Dies in Lime Kiln Fire

This Tuesday morning, December 30th, a 45-year-old homeless woman in Kerman, who was forced to seek shelter in one of the lime kilns on the outskirts of the city due to the lack of warming centers, lost her life in a fire.
According to Hrana News Agency citing ROKNA, this Tuesday morning, December 30th, 1399, a 45-year-old woman died as a result of a fire in the lime kilns in Kerman’s industrial district.
Jahanshahi, the spokesperson for Kerman’s Fire Department, said in this regard: “From the time of contact with the fire department, firefighters arrived at the scene within three minutes, but this is not when the fire started. The fire certainly occurred earlier, and because the kilns are in close proximity to residential areas, it took time to contact the fire department, and ultimately, due to ceiling collapse, there was no possibility of rescue.”
According to this report, for some time during winter cold, homeless individuals and socially vulnerable residents of Kerman, due to the lack of shelter facilities including warming centers, are forced to go to the city’s outskirts. One of these places is the lime kilns in the industrial district. It is a place where these individuals seek refuge to benefit from the heat near the kilns.
The issue of relocating the lime kilns from Kerman’s industrial district has been discussed for a long time. Various media outlets have repeatedly covered this topic. Officials have each time set a deadline and made promises. In one of the most recent statements on December 16th, the Deputy Judiciary of Kerman Province announced the relocation of the lime kilns and said: “The relocation of the lime kilns from the industrial district will be carried out starting next Saturday.”
