Former Commander of Khuzestan Police Announces Arrest of 1,250 Citizens on Security Charges Over 3 Years

On Wednesday, September 22, Heydar Abaszadeh, former commander of Khuzestan Province’s police force, announced the arrest of 1,250 citizens on security charges over the past three years.

According to Hrana news agency, citing IRNA, on Wednesday, September 22, 2020, the former commander of Khuzestan Province’s police force announced the arrest of 1,250 individuals over a three-year period under the designation of “members of separatist groups and individuals.”

According to him, the arrest of these individuals was carried out with the cooperation of the intelligence community, of which 36 were arrested as organized groups and the rest individually.

Abaszadeh also noted that over the past three years, approximately 15,200 weapons have been collected through one hundred collection operations, claiming that the collection of these weapons did not occur through house searches of individuals, and these collection operations targeted weapons dealers.

Heydar Abaszadeh also stated that over the past three years, approximately 20,000 complaints regarding unlawful shooting have been registered in the province, and during this period, 84 percent of those responsible for shooting have been identified.

The report did not provide details about the arrests and the identities of these individuals.
