Mohammad Mosaed, Economic Journalist, Sentenced to Four Years and Nine Months in Prison

Mohammad Mosaed, an economic journalist who was arrested twice in the past year for his reports on economic corruption and the November 2019 protests, announced his conviction to four years and nine months imprisonment by the Islamic Revolution Court.

Mr. Mosaed wrote on his Twitter page on Wednesday, September 3rd, that in addition to imprisonment, he has also been sentenced to “two years of journalism ban after release and confiscation of communication equipment.”

According to the journalist, his media activities were considered by the judge of Branch 26 of the Revolution Court to be “blackening, crisis-mongering, inciting uninformed audiences, and undermining the foundations.”

Mohammad Mosaed, who has published his writings mostly on Twitter in recent months, was arrested by the IRGC Intelligence Organization on November 22nd of last year and after spending two weeks in prison, was released on December 6th to attend his trial.

During this period, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) introduced him in late July this year as one of four recipients of this year’s “Press Freedom” award.

Mohammad Mosaed had previously won the prestigious award of Iranian economic journalists, known as the “Amin Al-Zarb Award,” as well as Deutsche Welle Germany’s “Freedom of Speech” award.
