Ibrahim Firouzi Released from Zahedan Prison After Posting Bail

On Saturday, the 9th of Esfand, Ibrahim Firouzi, an exiled Christian, was released from Zahedan Prison after posting bail. Mr. Firouzi was arrested on the 20th of Bahman of the current year after appearing before the prosecutor’s office and having bail set, due to his inability to pay it. He was transferred to Chabahar Prison and a few days later to Zahedan Prison.
According to Hrana news agency, citing Mohabbat News, on Saturday, the 9th of Esfand, Ibrahim Firouzi, an exiled Christian, was released from Zahedan Prison after posting 50 million tomans in bail.
Ibrahim Firouzi was summoned to the general and revolutionary prosecutor’s office of Sarbaaz County on the 19th of Bahman 1399 through a summons. On Monday, the 20th of Bahman, after appearing before the prosecutor’s office and having bail set, he was arrested due to his inability to pay it and transferred to Chabahar Prison, then to Zahedan Prison a few days later.
This Christian went on an indefinite hunger strike in Chabahar Prison on the 25th of Bahman 1399, demanding complete acquittal from what he describes as fabricated charges by the Ministry of Intelligence. With promises and assistance from officials, he ended his hunger strike on Tuesday, the 28th of Bahman 1399.
Mr. Firouzi was also summoned to the Rask Prosecutor’s Office in Mehr of the current year. After his court hearing on the 6th of Mehr of the current year, he was acquitted of all charges.
This Christian reported to Rask County on the 1st of Azar 1398, after enduring 7 years of imprisonment, to serve his 2-year exile sentence, and registered himself.
His exile sentence was further extended in Ordibehesht of this year for what was termed “absence” or “abandonment of mandatory residence,” and was increased by 8 more months of exile to Sarbaaz County by Branch 24 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Mohammad Reza Amoozad. It should be noted that three months of his exile were counted as absence, and a total of 11 months were added to his exile sentence.
Ibrahim Firouzi had previously been arrested and convicted due to his beliefs. The 35-year-old turner worker, residing in Robat Karim, was first arrested in Dey 1388 for proselytizing activities related to Christianity after being summoned twice by security agencies, and was transferred to Raji Shahr Prison in Karaj. In this case, he was convicted by the Karaj Revolutionary Court to 5 months of punitive imprisonment and 5 months of suspended imprisonment.
