Bulgaria Seizes 401 Kilograms of Heroin from Containers Belonging to ‘Iran’

Bulgarian judicial authorities announced on Tuesday, February 18, the discovery and seizure of 401 kilograms of heroin concealed in containers ‘belonging to Iran.’

According to Bulgaria’s prosecutor’s office, the ship carrying these containers arrived on February 7 from Dubai to Varna port in the Black Sea.

Reports indicate that Bulgarian customs officers discovered and seized approximately 500 packages of concealed heroin in containers that had come from Iran.

Bulgarian prosecutors say the owner of the importing company and a customs officer have been arrested on charges of smuggling this drug shipment.

The value of this smuggled shipment has been estimated at over 22 million dollars, while its street price has been reported to be two or three times this amount.

One of the largest heroin shipments in the history of Bulgaria’s customs administration, weighing 712 kilograms, was seized from two Iranian trucks heading to Austria in 2018.
