Rouhani Government’s Promise of “Free Electricity” for 30 Million Iranians

For the second time in recent weeks, Hassan Rouhani, Iran’s president, promised on Thursday that 30 million people in the country’s population will have “free” electricity.

According to ISNA news agency, Mr. Rouhani described free electricity as “a reward for low consumers.”

He said: “The Ministry of Power presented a proposal for free electricity and this proposal was approved by the government and 30 million people will not pay money for electricity consumption starting from two months from now, and as long as they are low consumers, their electricity is free.”

Hassan Rouhani further explained that “this plan mostly covers the situation of villagers.”
