Bucharest Prosecutor’s Office Announces Preliminary Results of Investigation into Judge Mansouri’s Death

Preliminary results of the investigation into the death of Gholamreza Mansouri in Romania indicate that death was caused by impact with a hard object.
Romanian media on Tuesday, June 24, reported following the release of a forensic medical report published by the communication office of the prosecutor’s office affiliated with the Bucharest Court, that the Iranian judge died as a result of severe injuries caused by impact with a hard object, which was likely caused by a fall.
The prosecutor’s office also announced that it has obtained images from the security cameras of the hotel where Gholamreza Mansouri was staying, which were recorded since the time of the incident.
On the other hand, Radio Farda reported citing sources close to the investigation that Mr. Mansouri had paid his hotel bill and packed his suitcase, which suggested he was preparing to leave the hotel.
These sources also said that a toxicology test was conducted on Mansouri to examine the possibility of such substances in his body.
Judge Gholamreza Mansouri, the judge of executions in Lavasan County, has been referred to as a fugitive defendant in the court hearing the charges against the former deputy head of the judiciary, after fleeing the country after receiving 500,000 euros in bribes.
Romanian police detained him at the request of Iranian police, but conditionally released him for one month.
On the other hand, international bodies defending the rights of journalists have filed a complaint against him due to unjustified arrests and pressure and threats against journalists and their families, and have demanded his detention from the Romanian government.
The body of Gholamreza Mansouri was found on Sunday, June 15, in a hotel in Romania where he had been staying for 10 days.
Following his death, speculation arose both inside and outside Iran about whether it was suicide or murder.
