Biden Invites Native American Woman to Cabinet

The next president of the United States has invited a Native American woman to his cabinet for a ministerial position. Deb Haaland is set to become the U.S. Secretary of the Interior. Major media outlets have referred to this as a historic event.

Joe Biden, the president-elect of the United States, is bringing a Native American into his cabinet for the first time in the nation’s history.

Deb Haaland, a 60-year-old congresswoman from New Mexico, will serve as Secretary of the Interior in Joe Biden’s cabinet.

If Ms. Haaland’s appointment is confirmed by the Senate, this will be the first time that a Native American has reached the position of secretary.

The Department of the Interior in the United States, in comparison with European countries, handles more regional duties related to natural resources and does not deal with security matters.

The Washington Post described Joe Biden’s decision as a historic step for the American nation, as it brings Native Americans of the United States into the country’s governance for the first time.

Ms. Haaland is one of two Native American women who successfully entered Congress in 2018.
