Mustafa Badkubei, Iranian Poet, Arrested and Transferred to Prison to Serve Sentence

Mustafa Badkubei, an Iranian poet and literary activist who was previously sentenced to one year in prison by the Revolutionary Court, was arrested upon reporting to Evin Prosecutor’s Office and transferred to prison.
According to reports published by human rights networks, this Iranian poet and literary activist, who was summoned in early Ordibehesht month to Branch One of Criminal Sentences Execution of the General and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in District 33 of Tehran, was arrested on Monday, June 12, following his appearance at the Evin Prosecutor’s Office for sentence execution and subsequently transferred to Greater Tehran Prison.
An informed source, confirming the news to Voice of America, stated that this arrest and transfer to Greater Tehran Prison occurs while Mustafa Badkubei not only suffers from multiple illnesses but is also suspected of having coronavirus and should receive medical treatment in healthcare facilities outside of prison.
According to published information, Mustafa Badkubei, who to date has published 29 book titles, including “The Causes of the Sassanid Defeat by the Arabs” and “The Biography of Khayyam,” in the fields of poetry, literature, and history, was previously sentenced to one year in prison by Tehran’s Revolutionary Court on the charge of insulting sacred values, a verdict that was upheld identically by Tehran’s Court of Appeals.
After the 2009 presidential elections, Mustafa Badkubei wrote numerous critical poems. He was arrested by security agencies in spring 2011 and spent time in Evin Prison until October 2013.
Previously, Mojgan Kavosi, an Iranian Kurdish writer and researcher whose 69-month prison sentence was increased to 76 months and 15 days by Mazandaran Province’s Court of Appeals following the prosecutor’s complaint that the original sentence was too lenient and rejection of the defendant’s lawyer’s arguments, was arrested on Tuesday, May 20, to serve her sentence and transferred to Noshahr Prison.
The U.S. State Department has repeatedly condemned the Islamic Republic regime’s violent treatment of the Iranian people under various pretexts, including treatment of freedom of choice in clothing, as well as repeated and ongoing violations of Iranian citizens’ rights by regime agents.
