WHO Issues Warning Over Potential Global Pandemic of Coronavirus Disease

As the death toll from coronavirus in China has exceeded one thousand, the World Health Organization has warned of the potential global pandemic of the disease caused by this virus.

According to Reuters, authorities in Hubei Province, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in China, reported the death of 108 infected individuals on Monday, February 10. On Sunday, 97 others died in the province, bringing the total death toll to 1,016.

On Monday, the head of the World Health Organization in Geneva also announced to journalists that the spread of coronavirus outside China “could be the spark that turns into a fire.” He added that humanity must not allow this pandemic to spiral out of control.

Currently, 42,000 confirmed cases have been registered in China and 319 cases outside the country. One of the centers identifying this disease is a cruise ship with 37,000 passengers and crew anchored off Yokohama, Japan, where 135 cases of the disease have been identified.

According to the head of the World Health Organization, there are concerns about cases of human-to-human transmission outside of China.
