Official Coronavirus Statistics in Iran; Death Toll Exceeds 15,000, 25 Provinces in Red Alert Status

Iran’s Ministry of Health spokesperson announced on Thursday, August 24, that the number of coronavirus victims in the country over the past 24 hours was 221 people, bringing the total death toll to 15,074 people.

Sima Sadat Lari also reported the identification of 2,621 additional people infected with coronavirus, stating that “2,004 of them” have been hospitalized in regular and special wards across hospitals throughout the country.

Iran’s Ministry of Health spokesperson said that 3,607 patients are currently “hospitalized in intensive care units.”

He added that currently 25 provinces of the country are in “red alert status” and in Fars and Razavi Khorasan provinces, the number of hospitalizations in the past 24 hours “has doubled compared to previous days.”

The official statistics of Iran’s Ministry of Health have faced serious doubts from experts and even some lawmakers, who have cited “concealment” by authorities and the low number of coronavirus tests being conducted in the country as the reason.
