Saber Sheik Abdullah and Diako Rasoulzadeh ‘Executed’ in Urmia Prison

Reports from Iran indicate that two Kurdish political prisoners were executed Tuesday morning at Urmia Central Prison.
Kurdish news sources, including the “Kurdistan Human Rights Network,” reported on Tuesday, July 15, the execution of Diako Rasoulzadeh and Saber Sheik Abdullah shortly after midnight.
The two political prisoners were executed hours after the international human rights organization Amnesty International called on Iranian authorities to “immediately” halt the execution of these two.
Earlier reports from Iran indicated that Rasoulzadeh and Sheik Abdullah had been transferred to solitary confinement pending the execution of their sentences.
Amnesty International also tweeted: “The death sentence for these two young men was issued following an extremely unjust judicial process and based on confessions extracted under torture and mistreatment.”
Four years after the bombing incident in the city of Mahabad, Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence Public Relations announced on Sunday, May 18, that three of those involved in the 2010 Mahabad bombing had been arrested in the same city.
The Mahabad bombing, which occurred during a ceremony commemorating the Iran-Iraq War anniversary in September 2010, resulted in the deaths of 12 people and injuries to 82 others.
Diako Rasoulzadeh and Saber Sheik Abdullah were two of the accused.
