Reza Mohammadhasani and Khaled Pirzadeh, citizens detained in Evin Prison, have been sentenced to a total of 23 years and 6 months in prison by the Revolutionary Court.

Zartosht Ahmadi-Ragheb, a civil activist and signatory to a letter calling for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s resignation, announced this news on his Instagram page, stating that Khaled Pirzadeh has been sentenced to 7 years in prison on charges of “propaganda against the system,” “gathering and conspiracy to undermine national security,” and “insulting the Supreme Leader.” Reza Mohammadhasani has been sentenced to 16 years and 6 months in prison on charges of “propaganda against the system,” “gathering and conspiracy to undermine national security,” “insulting the Supreme Leader,” “disobeying officials’ orders while on duty,” “illegal exit from the country,” and “illegal entry into the country.”

The verdict was issued by the branches of the Tehran Revolutionary Court. If confirmed and according to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code regarding sentence aggregation, only 5 years of Khaled Pirzadeh’s sentence and 7 years of Reza Mohammadhasani’s sentence will be enforceable.

According to reports published on social media, the sentences were handed down to the two political prisoners on Saturday, January 25, 2025, in Evin Prison.

Based on available information, Reza Mohammadhasani was arrested by security forces in April 2024, transferred to Evin Prison, and is currently being held in Ward 4 of Evin Prison. Khaled Pirzadeh, whose exact arrest date is unclear, was transferred to Evin Prison by security forces after his arrest and is currently being held in Ward 4 of Evin Prison.

Zartosht Ahmadi-Ragheb also announced in his Instagram post that Reza Mohammadhasani is currently on a hunger strike that began two months ago.

Previously, Voice of America reported that the political prisoner also went on a hunger strike in late June 2024 along with five other prisoners in protest of unjust trial procedures and prison conditions.

The United States has repeatedly condemned violent crackdowns and widespread suppression of protesters, as well as repeated and continuous violations of the rights of Iranian citizens by the ruling regime.

The U.S. State Department says that the Iranian regime has arrested thousands of protesters, civil activists, and representatives of workers and other groups over the past two years.
