Plane Crash: Iran’s Government Must Pay Between ‘$100 to $150 Million’ in Damages

Gholamali Jahangiri, Deputy Director of Iran’s Central Insurance Organization, told ISNA news agency that the damages resulting from the crash of the Ukrainian plane are estimated between $100 to $150 million, which will be paid by Iran’s government following an agreement between the two countries’ governments.
The majority of these damages relate to the aircraft fuselage. Mr. Jahangiri stated that if the damages amount to $100 million, $70 million of that would be related to the aircraft body.
Meanwhile, Mahmoud Khorram, Iran’s former Minister of Roads and Transportation, told “Tejarat News” publication that this incident will be “costly” for Iran and it may take years before international airlines will have confidence to fly through Iran’s airspace.
He said he cannot easily believe that Ali Abedzadeh, the head of the country’s aviation organization, was unaware that the plane had been targeted.
According to Mr. Khorram, the head of the aviation organization “could have determined that the plane was targeted with just 10 minutes of walking around the incident site.”
Mr. Khorram stated that Iran, in addition to ordinary damages, must “pay compensation to France as the aircraft engine manufacturer and to Boeing for the depreciation of share value and damage to the brand.”
