Latest Statistics on Child Marriage in Iran: Over 146,000 Marriages in 2018

According to statistics from Iran’s Civil Registration Organization in 2018, 324 marriages of boys under 15 years old and 13,054 marriages of girls under 13 years old were registered. Additionally, 133,086 marriages of girls aged 14 to 18 years were registered. However, another significant figure is 11,535 divorces among those aged 14 to 18, which have affected child brides.
A social worker regarding child marriage states: Based on the views of women’s specialists, pregnancy for girls under 18 years old is severely harmful and can result in serious health consequences and even death for young mothers. These girls suffer both physically and mentally and emotionally; while also being deprived of education and schooling, and are unable to raise good children for society.
