Iranian students returning from Wuhan quarantined; one flight attendant and one taxi driver suspected of coronavirus in Tehran

More than a week after the World Health Organization’s warning, Iranian students finally returned from Wuhan, the center of coronavirus outbreak in China, to Iran on Wednesday, February 5th.

Kianosh Jahanpour, head of the public relations and information center of the Ministry of Health, said: All students who returned from Wuhan, China this morning on a special flight are in quarantine.

Mohammad Mahdi Guya, head of the communicable disease management center of the Ministry of Health, also described the condition of all students as “almost good” and said that one of the students had “mild symptoms.”

This official announced the number of students entering the country to be around 50 people, while it had previously been stated that 70 Iranian students were in Wuhan.

The head of the communicable disease management center of the Ministry of Health also reported the identification of approximately 9 suspected coronavirus cases in Iran and emphasized that “fortunately, test results conclusively showed us that they have not been infected with this virus.”

This statement comes as the ISNA news agency, by publishing a photo report from the quarantine site for patients suspected of coronavirus in Tehran, pointed to the presence of two patients suspected of this virus.

According to this report, in the negative pressure respiratory isolation ward of Shahid Yaftabad Hospital, which has been converted to a quarantine site for patients suspected of coronavirus, there are only five beds for admitting patients suspected of this new virus, and so far two patients suspected of coronavirus have been hospitalized in this center.

ISNA wrote that one of these suspected cases in this hospital is an internet taxi driver who developed symptoms of this virus due to contact with a Chinese passenger, introduced himself to this quarantine center and is under observation, and the next patient under observation is a flight attendant who, upon developing symptoms of infection with this virus, introduced himself to the quarantine center.

In recent days, unconfirmed images had also been circulated on social media showing emergency personnel in special clothing accompanying a person.

In recent days, ambiguity about whether or not Iran would suspend flights to China had also sparked controversy.

Reports indicate that the number of coronavirus patients has reached 24,324 people, and Chinese health commission authorities announced the number of deaths from the coronavirus outbreak in the country at 490.
