Mike Pompeo Reacts to New Wave of Protests: Iranians Fed Up with Khamenei and the IRGC

The U.S. Secretary of State, by releasing a video of Iranian people’s protests following the regime’s admission of the scandal of downing a passenger airliner with an IRGC missile, emphasized that America stands with the Iranian people.

Mike Pompeo wrote on Twitter on Saturday, January 11: “The voice of the Iranian people is clear. They are fed up with the regime’s lies, corruption, weakness, and the brutality of the IRGC under the command of the thieving Khamenei.”

Mr. Pompeo emphasized: “We stand with the Iranian people who deserve a better future.”

In a video released by the U.S. Secretary of State, protesters in Tehran chant: “Don’t call me a rioter; you are the oppressor, the rioter.”

Also, a senior U.S. government official told Voice of America that the United States supports the Iranian people, like other parts of the world, who want their leaders not to spend their money and valuable resources on terrorism and nuclear ambitions.

He said the United States demands that the regime not resort to violence against protesters or cut off communications, as it has repeatedly done before.

He said the Iranian people deserve better than this, and we stand with them.

Hours after Islamic Republic officials were forced to admit that a Ukrainian passenger plane was shot down as a result of an IRGC missile strike, protesting crowds took to the streets and chanted against the Islamic Republic’s leader, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and other officials in several locations, including in front of Amirkabir University and Sharif University.
