Ukraine: Who Issued the Order to Fire Missiles at the Plane?

Ukraine’s foreign minister again asked Iran to hand over the black box of the downed aircraft of this country’s airline. He described cooperation with Iran as “difficult.” Iran says it has no plan to hand over the plane’s black box.

Vadym Prystaiko, Ukraine’s foreign minister, once again emphasized his country’s demand for the handover of the black box from the passenger plane shot down in Iran. A Boeing passenger aircraft of Ukraine International Airlines was targeted and shot down by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps air defense on December 9 in Iran. 176 passengers on this flight were killed.

Ukraine’s foreign minister said on Monday, February 10, at a gathering of foreign journalists in Rome that cooperation with Iran to clarify the details of this incident “has been very difficult from the beginning. But we continue to insist on our demand.”

Vadym Prystaiko emphasized that Ukraine seeks access to information recorded in the plane’s black box.

Bloomberg news agency reports that Iran is under international pressure to release more information about the cause of the Ukraine International Airlines flight crash.

Data recorded in the black box and the flight deck voice may contain clues about when the aircraft was hit by the missile. The Boeing 737 of Ukraine International Airlines was struck by a missile minutes after taking off from Tehran International Airport.

The state news agency of the Islamic Republic, IRNA, reported one day after the plane was shot down: “Iran has no plan to send the black box of this aircraft to Ukraine or any other country.”

Vadym Prystaiko, Ukraine’s foreign minister, said on Monday, February 10: “Now we need to plan how we can both gain access to the black box and advance the investigation. We are cooperating with five countries.”

After this crash, Iran initially denied that a missile struck the aircraft, but with the release of videos and information showing that the aircraft had been hit by a missile, Iranian authorities were forced to admit that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps air defense shot down the passenger aircraft.

Iran says “human error” was the cause of this tragedy. However, after a month has passed, it is still unclear how this human error occurred.

Ukraine says we want to know who issued the order to fire the missile at this aircraft.

Ukraine’s foreign minister now once again emphasized that the issue is not that “a soldier rushed to fire a missile and overreacted. We want to find the chain of command and who gave the order so that justice can be served against him.”
