Brian Hook: Islamic Republic has spent $16 billion of Iranian people’s money in Syria and Iraq

Brian Hook, U.S. State Department Special Representative for Iran, announced in an interview that the Islamic Republic of Iran has spent $16 billion on its militias in Iraq and Syria.

Reuters News Agency reported on Thursday, October 31st that Mr. Hook made these statements in an interview with Al Arabiya television. Brian Hook, without providing further details about the timeframe or the groups receiving these expenditures, said that the Iranian people deserve priority for the use of this amount.

Mr. Hook stated that the United States eagerly awaits Iraq taking steps to distance itself from economic dependence on Iran.

The U.S. State Department’s Special Representative, who resides in Saudi Arabia, added in this interview that during his current visit to the Saudi kingdom, discussions have taken place regarding investigations into the attack on Aramco facilities.

Brian Hook further stated that discussions are ongoing with the Security Council regarding how to respond to the Aramco attacks.

The “Buqayq” and “Khurais” facilities belonging to the state-owned oil company “Saudi Aramco” in eastern Saudi Arabia were targeted in an attack on Saturday, September 14th.

Mike Pompeo, U.S. Secretary of State, at that time blamed Tehran for the attacks and on the evening of Saturday, September 14th, wrote on his official Twitter account that while Rouhani and Zarif pretend to engage in diplomacy, Tehran is behind nearly 100 attacks on Saudi Arabia.

In this tweet, he added that despite all calls for reducing tensions, Iran has now carried out an unprecedented attack on global energy supplies, and there is no evidence that the attacks came from Yemen.
