77 Iranian Arbaeen Pilgrims Lost Their Lives

Hossein Zolfaghari, the security deputy of Iran’s Interior Minister and head of the Arbaeen headquarters, announced on Thursday, October 25, that 77 Iranian pilgrims have lost their lives during this year’s Arbaeen pilgrimage so far.
According to ISNA news agency, Hossein Zolfaghari cited “traffic accidents” as the cause of death for more than half of this number.
October 27 is Arbaeen Day, and according to Islamic Republic officials, more than two million people had registered to travel to Iraq and participate in this ceremony.
Iranian officials have referred to the Arbaeen ceremony in recent years as a “show of power” of the Islamic Republic.
This ceremony has gained considerable significance for the Islamic Republic in recent years and is held annually with extensive planning, mobilization of public resources, and substantial expenditures.
